Our Story -- Est. 2017
What begins in the highlands of Ethiopia arrives as a ritual in Bend.
Northbound Coffee Roasters was born from a long drive north along Highway 97, a thermos of thin grocery-store coffee growing cold on the dashboard, and the quiet conviction that Bend deserved better. In 2017, founder Caleb Ward converted a former metal-fabrication shop on the east side of town into a glass-walled roasting studio where the work could be seen, smelled, and understood by anyone who walked in.
The roastery sources exclusively single-origin lots, building direct relationships with farmers in Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala. Each bean carries a provenance: altitude, varietal, processing method, the name of the farm. Nothing is blended away. Nothing is hidden.
The pour-over bar at the front of the roastery is not an afterthought. It is a classroom and a slow morning ritual in one. The mountains outside the windows are not a backdrop. They are the reason the pace here is deliberate.

Founder & Head Roaster -- Est. 2017
Fast roasting. Generic blends. Coffee as commodity.
We do not roast to schedule. We roast when the bean is ready. Every lot rests. Every cup is timed not by the clock but by the pour. Northbound exists because coffee, done right, cannot be rushed.
